The survival of the NHS as we know it is not just determined by policies that are specific to the NHS.
The TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) is being considered by the European Union (which includes the UK). This could potentially allow American and European companies to bid to supply NHS services; this would pave the way for a privatisation that could be impossible to reverse. Private companies like Virgin Care have already secured NHS contracts to provide services. This agreement could open the floodgates to American and European companies and create a two-tier healthcare system in the UK.
